Awards: Academy of Chocolate 2019 Golden Bean Winner! – Best in Competition from 1600 entries!
At high altitudes this rare cacao grows along the remote slopes of Colombia's Sierra Nevada coastal mountains. Since there are no roads on the mountainous terrain, the wild heirloom cacao is harvested by the Arhuaco indigenous people and brought down the steep slopes on the backs of mules in jute sacks. The locals measure the journey not by distance but by how long it takes to smoke their "tobacco", a homemade cigar. The chocolate has a distinctive auburn color with caramel, fruity and nutty flavors.
